Borrowing Guide:

a quick guide to using your Library


NOTE: As of July 1, 2015 the following changes have been made to fines and fees.

  • The 50 cent fee for holds not picked up or cancelled before the hold expires has been eliminated.
  • The 50 cent fee for replacment library cards has been eliminated.
  • The daily overdue rate for Bestseller Express books has been increased to $1/day.
  • The daily overdue rate for Interlibrary Loan items has been increased to $1/day.

Loan Periods

3 weeks Books and Audiobooks, CDs, Magazines
1 week DVDs, Blu-ray discs, Young Adult and Junior Videogames
2 weeks     Bestseller Express (no renewals), Storytime and BEAR Kits
3 days Quick Flicks movies (no renewals)
  Separate loan periods may apply to popular items


How many items can you borrow?

Adults 100 items per card
Juveniles 25 items per card
Young Adults     40 items per card
TAL cards 5 books per card

Online services have varying limits separate from physical borrowing limits.


Overdue charges are as follows and apply to individual items:

Adult books

30 cents per day to a $10 maximum

Adult paperbacks

30 cents per day to a $5 maximum


DVDs, Blu-rays, Storytime or BEAR Kits,Young Adult & Junior Videogames, 
Quick Flicks, and Bestseller Express

$1 per day to a $10 maximum

Audio & CDs

50 cents per day to a $5 maximum


Junior books

15 cents per day to an $5 maximum

Junior paperbacks

15 cents per day to a $2 maximum


Junior Videos

50 cents per day to a $5 maximum

Junior DVD

50 cents per day to a $10 maximum

Interlibrary Loan Materials

$1 per day to a $10 maximum

An item overdue by 52 days generates a bill for replacement costs. Charges will be reduced to the maximum overdue per item when returned.

Borrowing privileges are suspended when debt equals/exceeds $10 or when 10 items are overdue. We may use a collection agency to collect debts of $50 or more.

Holds and Renewals

 Reserving Items

  •     Holds can be placed on all circulating items except Quick Flicks and Bestseller Express items.
  •     Holds can be placed by using the 'My Account' section of the online catalogue.
  •     Notification is sent through the Telephone Circulation Service or provided email address. 
  •     There is a limit of 30 holds per adult, 10 holds per juvenile member and 15 holds per young adult member.


Renewals and Returns

   Two renewals available on most materials with the following exceptions:

  • items on hold - no renewal 
  • Bestseller Express and Quick Flicks - no renewal
  • Storytime and BEAR Kits, 1 renewal only
  You can renew an item to extend the due date and keep it longer:
  • by accessing My Account through the online catalogue
  • calling the Telephone Circulation Services at 780-459-2979
  • or in the Library at the public terminals or with a staff member.

 When the library is open, return your books in the automated check-in in St. Albert Place Lobby and all DVDs and CDs in the chute beside it. When the library is closed, return all material through the chute, or use the 24-hour bookdrop at the library back entrance across from the Court House parking lot. Items returned after the library is closed will be checked in on the next days date.
